Gives me the chills.
There's a new book on the life and work of Yma Sumac that I look forward to reading this summer. This is a first. I have yet to find anything like this, so it will be a treat.
Update: Please have a look at the comments. There seems to be a strong difference of opinion concerning the provenance and accuracy of this book. Take it where you will from there.

The book is VILE. It was not written by an insider, and is more or less a mass of newspaper reviews lumped together to make a "book." Any truly personal stuff is ASSUMED, and usually incorrect. The interviews with those who "knew her" are ten to 20 years old and show a very one dimensional story--with no complexity, no depth. In truth, one comes away from it depressed, as Limansky does everything in his power to destroy her "myths" (many of which are not myths at all!). He makes her seem like a rather tragic figure, when in fact, she has a FORTUNE, and is very loved. Yes...she can be extremely difficult, but that is on the surface. It takes a REAL tough and determined person to break through the icy facade and find the real and sweet woman underneath. I am the only one, in the end, who stuck around.
She is very ill now. This "book" could not have come at a more cruel time. Those of us interviewwed were told it was a "CAREER OVERVIEW" so we spoke freely about all kinds of troublesome things A DECADE AGO. Some of us were horrified to see every word we ever spoke---in print.
Plus...it's damned expensive for such a cheap book.

I agree with the first comment, I waste time and money with this "book" this wasn't what I spected to read about her, I'm Ms Sumac's fan and looks like the author just wanted to destroy her image, but it won't change my appreciation of my diva
That's too bad. She deserves better.
