Bubba Ho-tep - Elvis swaps life with impersonator

(video link)

A little backstory.

Elvis and JFK

Bruce Campbell (Elvis) and Ossie Davis (JFK)

Bubba Ho-Tep

The King... and I

Ever wonder what Elvis might have been like at 74? Track down Bubba Ho-Tep. Bruce Campbell was brilliant as the elder King.

Those of you who have already seen and loved Bubba Ho-Tep might be pleased to know that Bubba Nosferatu is on the horizon! Due for release in 2011, this time we'll have Ron Perlman as Elvis and Paul Giamatti as Colonel Tom Parker. Sadly, Ossie Davis won't be joining us for this one.

Lenny Bruce - Thank You, Mask Man (1971)

(video link)

Many years ago, I had this on one of those weird home-made video tapes that shows up from who-knows-where.

An animated adaptation of Lenny Bruce's Lone Ranger routine, Thank You, Mask Man was created by John Magnuson, who also directed "The Lenny Bruce Performance Film". This version is featured as a bonus clip on the DVD. I don't know much about the production other than it was posthumous (obviously), and that Bruce was given writing and directing credits.

Core of the galaxy in hi-res

Science News:

This false-color panorama of the central 300 light-years of the Milky Way shows the glow from ionized hydrogen gas and a multitude of young stars. The infrared portrait is the sharpest ever taken of our galaxy core. The mosaic combines images taken by the Hubble Space Telescope’s Near Infrared Camera and Multi-Object Spectrometer with lower-resolution images from NASA’s Spitzer Space Telescope.

Such a mystery. I wonder what it's like in there.

Bob Marley: Football is Freedom

Bob Marley was huge into soccer - as a player and a fan. He played at every opportunity. His favorite team was Santos Futebol Clube (Brazil) and his favorite player was Pelé. Urban legend has it that he lost his life due to an injury sustained while playing in London.

It is said that if he hadn't pursued a career in music, he was talented enough to have been equally famous in the world of sports.

Check music and sports for an extensive selection of Marley football photos.

Bob Marley was buried with his guitar (Gibson Les Paul), a bud of marihuana, a bible, a ring and a soccer ball.

$2500 15 MB Radio Shack hard drive

I'm not sure when this dates from, but regardless, it's hard to imagine what people did with all that space!

I read somewhere that, back in the day (early '90s?), someone wrote a flight simulator program that was around 450K. I might be off on the exact figure, but it was less than a meg.

I also remember reading a William Gibson story (Johnny Mnemonic?) where a badass data courier had a whopping 100 megabytes of storage on his head chip!

I always figured that if one would write a spec-fic story featuring computer technology, jack your capacity and performance to well beyond what you will think it will be and then multiply that by a million. Then it might not seem so ridiculous to someone reading it 15 years later.
